Activities

Fans of the sea can enjoy daily boat rides that depart from the marinas in Albufeira or Vilamoura. They enable you to discover the beautiful Algarve coast, caves and small beaches surrounded by rock cliffs along the Barlavento Coast.
Another interesting visit is inland by jeep. Several companies organise these adventure tours suitable for all the family. You can find out more information about these excursions in reception or at several other locations in Albufeira. Buses or jeeps will pick you up at your accommodation establishment.
The establishment is near Guia where Zoomarine is located. This amusement park offers several daily shows with dolphins, sea lions, birds of prey, parrots and more animals. You can also enjoy large swimming pools and some carousels. At Zoomarine you can interact and swim with dolphins. In addition to all this fun, this park also has a rehabilitation centre that welcomes and treats lost, injured or sick marine animals.
Famous waterparks provide days of great excitement and joy for visitors. The most well-known in the area are Aquashow in Quarteira, Aqualand in Alcantarilha and Slide & Splash in Lagoa. On the way to Silves, you will find Krazy World where, in addition to great mini-golf and swimming pools, visitors can stroll around a zoo that houses several animal species.
You can also visit endangered animals at Ómega Parque in Monchique. Lagos Zoo in Bensafrim also has a beautiful and pleasant space you can visit. If you are looking for something even more exciting, head to Karting de Almancil.

Gastronomy

Algarve gastronomy, although restricted to a relatively small geographical area, shows Mediterranean and Atlantic influences that are visible in the amount of fish consumed. Mediterranean gastronomy, which is based on the trilogy of bread, wine and olive oil, is repeated throughout the country with the addition of vegetables, like in various soups, and fresh fruit. Meat, mainly pork, also comprises a set of regional dishes and appetisers where sausages are the stand out. Thanks to maritime discoveries, Portuguese cuisine quickly integrated the use of spices and sugar as well as other products like beans and potatoes, which were adopted as essential ingredients. The variety of regional dishes can be seen from place to place. Two neighbouring cities may use the same name for dishes that differ greatly in the way they are made, but which share the same basic recipe.
Recommended dishes: seafood rice, seafood "açorda", "cataplana", fish stew, mackerel, octopus feijoada and Xarém.
Recommended sweets: Carob cake, almond tart and fig cake.
